Devī as Brahman

A thread of passages where the Goddess answers as Brahman.

1. 1 Devī Upaniṣad 1 (Sanskrit Documents numbering) primary_text

   All the gods approached the Goddess. ‘Who are you, Great Goddess?’ She said: ‘I am the form of Brahman. From me is the world of prakṛti and puruṣa — empty and not-empty.’

2. 2 Devī Upaniṣad 17 (Sanskrit Documents numbering) primary_text

   Her own form even Brahmā and the rest do not know — therefore She is called unknowable. She has no end — therefore endless. She cannot be grasped — therefore unmarkable. Her birth is not found — therefore unborn. She alone is everywhere — therefore One. She alone is world-formed — therefore also not-one.

3. 3 Bahvṛca Upaniṣad 5 (Sanskrit Documents numbering) primary_text

   She herself is the ātman; what is other than that is untrue, not-self. Therefore this is the knowing of Brahman, freed from the arts of being and non-being: the wave of sat-cit-ānanda, Mahātripurasundarī, entering outer and inner, shining as one. The one real named Lalitā is the undivided, secondless, highest Brahman.

4. 4 Bahvṛca Upaniṣad 7 (Sanskrit Documents numbering) primary_text

   It is spoken as ‘prajñānaṃ brahma’ or as ‘ahaṃ brahmāsmi’. It is spoken as ‘tat tvam asi’. It is spoken as ‘ayam ātmā brahma’ or as ‘brahmaiva aham asmi’.
