Canonical source text

तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि । धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥

IAST transliteration

tat savitur vareṇyaṃ bhargo devasya dhīmahi | dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt ||

Close translation

We meditate on that desirable radiance of the god Savitṛ, who may set our understandings in motion.

Reader-friendly meaning

The saṃhitā line of the Gāyatrī, without the later भूर् भुवः स्वः prefix printed on the mantra card.

Meenananda editorial explanation

Households recite the vyāhṛtis with this ṛk. The card in the mantra library prints that living form; this verse keeps the saṃhitā numbering honest.

Word meanings

  • सवितुः — of Savitṛ
  • वरेण्यम् — most excellent
  • धीमहि — we meditate
