Prakṛti and Manifestation

Sītā as mūlaprakṛti; Devī as source of the paired world.

   The gods said to Prajāpati: ‘Who is Sītā? Of what form?’ Prajāpati said: ‘She is Sītā. Because She has the form of root-prakṛti, Sītā is remembered as Prakṛti.’

   That Goddess is threefold as seated in śakti: will-śakti, action-śakti, and śakti as such.

3. 3 Devī Upaniṣad 1 (Sanskrit Documents numbering) primary_text

   All the gods approached the Goddess. ‘Who are you, Great Goddess?’ She said: ‘I am the form of Brahman. From me is the world of prakṛti and puruṣa — empty and not-empty.’

4. 4 Bahvṛca Upaniṣad 1 (Sanskrit Documents numbering) primary_text

   The Goddess was one at first. She herself emitted the world-egg. She is known as Kāmakalā. She is known as Śṛṅgārakalā.
