Chanted knowledge. Surviving schools include Kauthuma, Rāṇāyanīya and Jaiminīya.
Much of the Sāmaveda’s wording is shared with the Ṛgveda; the sāman is the sung form. This phase names the schools. Chant notation waits for a sourced paddhati.
